29th October saw us making the trip from Melbourne to Phillip Island to see the Seal colony (afternoon) and watch the Penguin Parade (sunset). Photography was a challenge given the direction and brightness of the light and the heaving of the deck of the boat. However I think I got some decent shots. Unfortunately photography of the Fairy Penguins is not allowed so no pictures of Penguins. Watching them come up the beach and on into their nesting boxes has left an indelible mark on my mind. Kneeling within arms reach of these animals is an experience I will never forget. Photos not required...

I have had the new lens for about a week and I am learning how best to use this equipment. Mated to my D3300, it is capturing some really nice shots but there are some limitations. Shooting really long distance (greater than 150M) or very short distance (less than 4M) seems to create some softness. I am thinking this is the camera auto focus. Anything at 550mm FL or more also seems to be a bit soft but not all the time. I have turned off the vibration compensation as this takes a short time to take affect after the lens has been focused and it is advised to only use it when the camera is not moving. When shooting within the above limitations

Spent 2 hours paddling around and taking photos on Saturday and I think I will end up spending significant time in it. Sunday saw me back in the canoe and this time we paddled the full length of the lake seeing some Kites fishing. The light was pretty good except for the time we spent trying to photo the Kites. :'( There is always next week end :) I am think
